Catholic Formation, Academic Rigor,
Leadership and Service
Students are expected to enter and exit the building in an orderly fashion. High school students, who drive to school, are expected to arrive and leave the campus in a manner that does not pose a safety risk for themselves or others. In the event a faculty member and/or administrator witnesses a student driving in a careless or reckless manner, the student may have his/her driving privileges suspended and/or permanently revoked. High school students who wait for transportation after school must wait under the exterior, covered area of the foyer on Trojan Lane.
Student arrival at school prior to 7:20 am is strictly prohibited. There is no one to supervise students before this time. Arriving at school too early presents a real safety risk to children for which the school is not responsible. Violations shall be addressed as student discipline and/or pursuant to the Parent Cooperation Statement.
For students who are picked up at school following dismissal, it is imperative that the pick-up occurs by 3:30 pm each day. The teacher on duty cannot leave students unattended, and a teacher should not have to consistently stay longer than the normal bus duty time. Violations shall be addressed as student discipline and/or pursuant to the Parent Cooperation Statement.
Each family should develop and teach all their children a family plan for emergency dismissal during the day. One child should be designated in each family to call whoever will pick up the children. Elementary school students should know the name and number of whom to call or the identity of the person who will call someone for them. If buses are picking up students, the students should know whether to ride the bus or call someone. Parents who work out of town should designate a relative or friend who lives in town to pick up the students in an emergency situation. The students should know the name and phone number of the individual who will take responsibility for them. In case of an emergency dismissal, the school will utilize Renweb and notify the local radio station. KVPI is always notified.
In stormy weather, all students will be confined inside in the building until the threat is over; therefore, parents must come inside the building for pick- up. Students who ride the bus will be called when the bus arrives. Parents are asked not to call the school offices to inquire if there will be an early dismissal. Dismissal during the height of a storm would only endanger the students. These calls tie up school telephone lines and interfere with the staff’s ability to communicate with emergency personnel, public schools, weather information sources and the radio station.
In case of fire, bomb threat or some other threat that necessitates evacuating the building, the students will be brought to the high school football and baseball fields (or another appropriate staging area, depending on the circumstances) and kept away from the building and/or reported threat. Emergency information will be broadcast over the local radio station, KVPI.
