GRADES 1-3: REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF 500 POINTS Science (Grades 1 & 2) – incorporated across the curriculum Science (Grade 3 only) – a minimum of 300 pts. per grading period

Remaining 200 POINTS from Projects, quizzes, etc.
GRADES 4-8: REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF (6) 100-POINT TESTS The remainder of the grades will be accumulated from but not limited to the following: labs, quizzes, journals, research papers, etc. 4th -12th grade teachers are allowed to assign 1 project-based assignment per grading period to count as one of the (6) 100-point tests. GRADES 9-12 As a result of the variation in rigor and depth of content, grades 9th – 12th will be assigned a minimum of 600 points which will include but not limited to PE classes. Adjustments may also be made for grading due to extenuating circumstances such as revisions of bell schedules, re-teaching of lessons, etc.
Students’ assessments will be graded and returned to students within 3 days of completion. Once students have submitted projects, research papers, portfolios, etc. by the due date, teachers have 5 days to grade all of the assigned material.
PARTICIPATION GRADES In the event a portion of a high school student’s grade for a course is based on his/her participation in the class, this grade will be based on the following:
PE – students will earn a grade each day for participation in the assigned activities/sports
Other Courses – student participation may be determined including but not limited to a child’s contribution to a partner/group activity or project used as an assessment of the student’s level of comprehension.
WEEKLY ASSESSMENT POLICY Students may be assigned tests on Mondays but are not to be given more than 2 tests per day. HOMEWORK Homework assignments are given at the discretion of the teacher. Homework aids the learning process while assisting students in the development of self-discipline through effective time management. Compliance is mandatory for all student assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain assignments when absent. Teachers may post assignments on the board in their classrooms and/or on Renweb. The purposes of homework are
to ensure material taught in class is thoroughly learned and practiced
to give practice in creative thinking
to provide opportunities for students to learn to work independently, to help themselves, to solve problems and learn self-discipline
to reveal to the student, the weakness in his/her studies in order for her/him to seek guidance from parents and teachers regarding how to overcome said weaknesses
Regular homework is scheduled for each night of the school week.
There is no such thing as “No homework.”
There is always homework in the form of:
Revision Preparation of future lessons Personal research work Study Reading novels Preparation for tests, quizzes, exams, etc.
Final Exam Exemption Privilege Students in grades 9-12 who accomplish the following will be exempt from the final exam of the specified course(s):
maintain an A average in the course(s) for all six grading periods and a minimum of a B grade on the mid-term exam or
receive the honor of placing in the top 3 in a specific course at the State Literary and/or Speech Rallies.
