The Sacred Heart team “Holy Smokes” which consisted of Isaac Coreil, Aubrey Brasseaux, Aadyn Darbonne, and Jordan Lafleur competed this past week in the Louisiana 4-H Food Challenge “Chopped.” The team has been practicing for months. Just like the tv show Chopped, they would be given a secret ingredient to cook as part of a meal on their own without adult assistance. They had 40 min to grocery shop, cook the meal, prepare a presentation, and clean their kitchen area. The presentation was a separate event in front of the judges that included the nutrition, cost, and steps in creating their meal. The secret ingredient was shrimp, which they had never cooked with before. Out of 24 teams from the entire state, the Holy Smokes placed 1st, Grand Champion. Each team member received a ribbon, a certificate, and a gift. The team also received a silver platter that will be hung at the Evangeline Parish 4-H office.
