Sam Gil
We are extremely proud to announce that Sam Gil, Sacred Heart Class of 2020 was selected as a finalist of the Rhodes Scholarship!
This is a huge honor to be selected. The first president of the United States to have been a Rhodes Scholar was President William Jefferson Clinton. As of 2018, Bill Clinton remains the only U.S. President to have been a Rhodes Scholar. Sam is the first representative from McNeese State University to be selected as a finalist in the history of the school. The alumni of the Rhodes Scholarship include Nobel, PEN/Faulkner and Pulitzer Prize winners, heads of state, university presidents, vice chancellors and high court judges.
“The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the oldest and most prestigious scholarships in the world. Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. I have been selected as a finalist in District 13 of 15 other districts. 32 American applicants are selected, 2 from each district. This Thursday, I will travel to Denver to participate in the interview process Friday-Saturday against 11 other finalists. I am humbly asking for thoughts and prayers from the Trojan Family. This opportunity arises from my strong foundations at Sacred Heart and all the incredible people who have invested in my journey. Thank you, and Go Trojans!” -Sam Gil
