Chalking the Doors On Wednesday and Friday, Fr. Andrew Killeen went from door to door blessing each room with Epiphany chalk. Epiphany marks the occasion of a time-honored Christian tradition of what's known as "chalking the doors." Written above or on each door is the following: 20 + C + M + B + 23. The numbers mark the new year and the letters have a twofold meaning. First, they represent the names of the three wise men, Caspar, Malchior, and Balthazar, who visited the newborn king. Second, they form a Latin phrase, which means, "May Christ bless the house." The "+" signs represent the Cross. Altogether, this inscription is a request for Christ to bless those buildings or homes with this mark and that He stays with those who live or work there throughout the entire year.
