Catholic Formation, Academic Rigor,
Leadership and Service
One credit in Religion is required each year in high school at Sacred Heart School. If a student
does not successfully complete the requirements of a religion course, he/she will be required to
repeat that religion course the following year in place of an elective, along with the appropriate
religion course for the current year. If a student should fail the religion course during the senior
year and in order to earn a Sacred Heart School diploma, the pastor must approve an instructor
to teach a Religion course during the summer. The student must complete and pass 30 hours of instruction, assignments and assessments in order to meet the requirement of receiving credit
for the course failed during the school year. The student will be issued his/her diploma after
successfully completing the summer course and listed as a graduate of his/her respective class.
Parents will be required to pay the cost of the summer class. With the approval of the
administration, the respective teacher will create a schedule/timeline for the course.
All Juniors are required to participate in the Christmas Under the Oaks while all Seniors are
required to participate in The Passion presentation.
For failure to show one’s commitment to the philosophy of Sacred Heart School by not
completing all religious service requirements, participation in assigned religious presentations
and/or attending mandatory retreats, the student’s religion grade may result in an “I” or non-
credit for the year. For seniors, an “I” would prohibit them from participating in school-sponsored graduation ceremonies. All high school students must earn one religious studies credit for each
year of attendance at Sacred Heart School.
*If a 4th – 8th grade student fails a religion course, the student will be required to repeat and earn a passing grade in that specific religion course over the summer before being promoted to the next grade level.
